He even gave them names: Rocky because he&#39;s &quot;solid and cool as granite rock&quot;; Colt, because he&#39;s &quot;fast and free, a spirit of a young wild horse&quot;; and Tum Tum because ambition begins and ends with his tummy&quot;. But one day, an old &quot;friend&quot; of Grandpa&#39;s, Hugo Snyder, is heard from again. He&#39;s being hassled by the F.B.I., and the boys&#39; father happens to be an F.B.I. officer. So Snyder figures if he kidnaps the father&#39;s kids, it will ease the tension, none of his own men are suitable for the task, so he hires three dim and incredibly incompetent surfers to do the deed. The boys treat them to a night of ninja moves and hilarious gags ala &#39;Home Alone&#39;. But the boys soon get captured by Snyder, and what is more, they become doubtful of their grandfather, until he bursts into action and fights Snyder. Three young brothers, who have been trained in ninja techniques from an early age, learn that they possess powers which evil crooks would like to control. When a kidnap is attempted, they must defend themselves using all their skills. Usually, a movie completely pandering to children (and leaving adults totally out of the equation) fails to &quot;live on&quot; in any meaningful sense because once the child grows up, the tape/disc goes out the window, so to speak. Every once in awhile, though, a children&#39;s movie is made that is so good at what it does that even grown-ups can watch it and still laugh/smile. &quot;3 Ninjas&quot; is that type of movie.<br/><br/>For a basic plot summary, &quot;3 Ninjas&quot; sees a young trio of brothers--Rocky (Michael Treanor), Colt (Max Shade), and Tum-Tum (Chad Power)--caught in a kidnapping plot initiated by Snyder (Rand Kingsley). However, thanks to some ninja training from their Grandpa (Victor Wong), the three grade-schoolers are able to use their wits to try and fight off the hopeless idiots trying to &quot;kidnap&quot; them.<br/><br/>There are two primary reasons why &quot;3 Ninjas&quot; works so well for both children and adults:<br/><br/>1. For kids, the action is top-notch. I mean, every kid wants to feel as if he/she could take care of themselves (an emotion tapped into perhaps best in &quot;Home Alone&quot;) and be independent of their parents, so this plot line plays perfectly to the grade-school set. As a kid watching this movie, you will easily identify with the characters.<br/><br/>2. No matter how old you get, though, the sly humor and buffoonish criminals throughout the flick will always put a smile on your face. The performance of the three dimwitted burglars is easily the comedic highlight, as they are such idiotic characters that one can&#39;t help but laugh at them!<br/><br/>Also, this movie has an incredibly catchy soundtrack theme that really generates some excitement and will stick in your head for quite some time.<br/><br/>Overall, &quot;3 Ninjas&quot; is a defining film of my childhood and one that I can enjoy even as an adult. If you loved &quot;The Karate Kid&quot; or the childish excitement of &quot;Home Alone&quot;, then give this one a shot as well! Patrick Labyorteaux shows a great performance that will keep you laughing through the movie.It is defenitely one of his greatest performances yet. Race Nelson and D.J. Harder also displayed an outstanding performance. Kids will enjoy the movie as well as the whole family. It is a great action film that shows amazing stunts and humor. It is my favorite movie, and I could watch it a million times. 3 Ninjas is basically harmless, but it's not entertaining enough to fully engage adults or the under-12 set -- especially once the popcorn and sodas have been polished-off.
